Case Study

James Strange (ADI)

James recently trained as an instructor with walkers. Before hand he was working as a school teacher and was looking to change career.

"I’ve been working at this family run business for about eight months, first as a PDI and now as an ADI after passing my Part 3 exam last September.

First of all I was looking for a company that wouldn’t make me feel lost in a large organisation and left to fend for myself. I’ve appreciated the sense of support and willingness to help at Walkers. If ever I have a concern I know I can pop into the office in Sundridge Park and talk to Adam or one of the office staff at any time. I never feel I’m being pressurized to accept new pupils or work at times that aren’t convenient to me. The office staff are great and very friendly, and when they do contact you it’s important to know you’re not just a voice on the end of the phone.

For someone who has just started out as a driving instructor it’s been a very positive experience at Walkers. Most importantly I feel I’ve had an excellent training at Walkers from Tony Phillips. He impressed me straight away through his sense of humour and impeccable politeness. He knows it’s not just about getting you through the exam, (though I was enormously grateful at passing the Part 3 exam first time!) You may feel quite anxious starting out as a trainee, just like any pupil, and Tony has a gift for putting you at ease and helping you to understand what makes an effective driving instructor.

I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed my first eight months with Walkers. Of course it’s not always been plain sailing(driving!) and it’s often hard work. I know how important it is to prepare individual lessons for your pupils and keep good records of what you’ve achieved with them. It all takes time but it’s fantastic to see the smiles when they pass their test and you know it’s all been worthwhile. "

Russel Johson (ADI)
"Hi, I'm Russ Johnson I am one of many, Walkers DSA approved driving instructors.I now enjoy the benefits of being able to work for as long or little each day and as many days of the week I like, as a result of the excellent instructor training I received through Walker's.

I have been qualified for almost 2 years now and am enjoying the challenge of being a DSA approved driving instructor, with brisk business keeping me on my toes thanks to all the support from the office girls and Tony.

If you are thinking of a new career, and want a new exciting challenge, especially if you want to be able fit your training around your existing full time job, as I did, having worked in London all my life then look no further. The instructor training is challenging, yet enjoyable and flexible to suit your circumstances and there is no need to break the bank to start your new career."

Kai Wong (ADI)

"I started my ADI training with BSM. Unfortunately I found the training I received from the largest national driving school was not of a very high standard. I soon became aware my chances of passing and qualifying were very slim. I was recommended to try Walkers Instructor training and I continued and completed my training with Walkers. The Training I received was far superior to any I had received prior to Walkers.  I passed and qualified, then decided to remain at Walkers School of Motoring."

Tony Grace(ADI)

"I completed my ADI training entirely with Walkers in 2008, passing my part three exam 1st time, something not unusual for trainees of Walkers. The training I received was second to none and I would heartily recommend anyone wanting to train to be a driving instructor, to train with them at Walkers."
